THE COMMERCIAL STARTING POINT

An NBS Facility Review starts with a conversation about the purpose, amount and timing of a substantial requirement. The scope is agreed for the case. It can examine invoice finance, asset finance or business borrowing, without assuming that switching or taking more debt is the best outcome.

Invoice finance £500k+ · Asset finance £250k+ · Business loans £200k+. Focus amounts, not fixed eligibility thresholds.
01 / THE COMMERCIAL DETAIL

Start with the decision, not a list of lenders

Define the commercial objective: more payroll headroom, a capacity investment, a fleet replacement or a planned refinance. State the amount of cash needed, when it is needed and how the business expects to repay or support the commitment.

For an existing arrangement, explain what works and what needs to change. A renewal, a lower available balance or an investment plan is a useful trigger. A strong incumbent relationship can remain part of the answer.

For invoice finance, reconcile the debtor book, eligible debt, concentration caps, reserves and drawings. For asset finance, bring together cash contribution, VAT timing, delivery and the full payment profile. For a loan, establish net proceeds, affordability and total repayment.

Then read the conditions: guarantees, security, covenants, recourse, collection responsibilities, reporting and restrictions. The comparison should show what the business commits as well as what it receives.

03 / THE COMMERCIAL DETAIL

Compare the realistic next steps

The useful alternatives may be staying, amending the incumbent arrangement, exploring a replacement or using a different structure. A direct lender discussion may already meet the requirement. NBS adds value where clarifying the brief, examining trade-offs or coordinating an appropriate introduction helps the decision.

For switching or refinancing, account for settlement figures, notice periods, exit fees and security releases. Compare total remaining commitments as well as the new monthly payment. A longer term may improve near-term cash flow while increasing total repayment.

Before a provider approach, agree the relevant parties, information-sharing permissions and further evidence. A route may involve a specialist intermediary. There is no promise of a fixed number of quotes or a whole-of-market exercise.

04 / THE COMMERCIAL DETAIL

What to expect from the first conversation

Start with company details, the approximate amount, the commercial purpose, relevant dates and the main question. No financial-document upload is needed for the brief enquiry. If a route is worth investigating, the required evidence and sharing arrangements can be agreed next.

Any analysis, comparison or written output must be agreed for the case. The browser calculators and printable working summary are educational tools you can use yourself; they do not constitute a review undertaken by NBS, a formal recommendation or an automatically submitted request.

HYPOTHETICAL EXAMPLE / NOT A CLIENT CASE

An annual cost figure needs an availability figure beside it

Hypothetical calculation
Service fee£32k£8m × assumed 0.4%
Interest£48k£600k average drawn × assumed 8%
Other costs£3kAssumed annual costs
Illustrative annual cost£83,000Compare usable cash, security and conditions alongside cost.

Hypothetical illustration only. Not a client case, quote, lender policy or funding commitment.

For a hypothetical business processing £8m of turnover, an assumed 0.4% service fee is £32k a year. Average drawings of £600k at an assumed combined annual rate of 8% cost £48k; other costs of £3k bring the model to £83k. Whether that is useful value depends on the available cash, service and conditions. These assumptions are not market rates, NBS prices or a client result.

COSTS, SECURITY & PRACTICAL CONSTRAINTS

Know the cash.
Know the commitment.

There is no client broker fee charged by NBS Finance. We are paid by funders when a facility completes. Provider interest, service fees, legal costs and other agreement charges remain payable under their terms. Security and any personal guarantees need their own review; a no-client-fee introduction does not make the funding free.

For the next stage of assessment

  • Business objective, amount, timing and expected cash benefit
  • Current or proposed agreements and repayment schedules
  • Ledger, asset schedule or debt information relevant to the route
  • Accounts, management information and missing facts to resolve

The brief enquiry does not require these documents. Agree the purpose, permissions and appropriate sharing route first.

BEFORE YOU PROCEED

The questions
worth settling.

Is the review a formal advisory report?

No standard formal report or guaranteed deliverable is promised. Agree the scope, work and any output for the specific case before relying on it.

Must we switch or take a new facility?

No. Staying, renegotiating, proceeding directly or stopping can be sensible outcomes.

Does using the calculator request a review?

No. Calculator and summary inputs stay in your browser. Use the separate enquiry route to contact NBS.

Is this only for invoice finance?

No. Invoice finance, asset finance and business borrowing receive equal priority. The evidence differs by the funding decision.
